Tasting Notes:

Dragonwell is the most classic green tea from China, immortalized as a tribute tea by emperors and revered worldwide. The original Dragonwell that was recognized by Emperor Qianlong and propelled the Hangzhou Westlake region to fame is made from an old tree tea cultivar, called Qunti. Ours is a premium grade made from this ancient cultivar. It very distinctly conveys the rocky granite terroir of the pristine region where it is grown on a 500-acre terrace tea garden spanning the lush hillsides of Qiandao Lake, about 100 miles from Hangzhou.

Our partner tea farmer, Mr. Chen, has established his garden with one of his best friends from childhood. His Dragonwell grows alongside native osmanthus trees and relies on predatory bugs and nesting birds for natural pest control. The fresh Spring tea leaves are collected and hand-processed annually in early April. Big on texture and mineral flavor, this is a beautiful example of what a traditional Dragonwell tastes like.

Not as pictured

My tea arrived and it is far from what is pictured. The tea leaves are broken into little pieces (reminiscent of Yerba Mate) and a lot of stems in this 1 pound bag. The flavor is not the greatest either. This isn't my first bag from here. The first bag was great this one doesn't really have a taste very bland.

My Go-to

I only drink green teas and have tried all sorts - genmaicha, clouds and mist, etc. They're all reasonably interesting. But the one I make most often when I just want a cup of deliciousness is this.

This is my favorite green tea. I love going through tea Spot. They are a great organization and giving back to communities.

low quality dragonwell

This is the worst dragonwell I've ever had. Little/no bud, broken leaves, with stems!!! I am not sure how they call it 'high-grade', which supposedly be 'high quality'. In official ranking system, 1st grade is much better than 3rd grade. The tea they are selling is much worse than 3rd grade, maybe 5th grade? or out of grading system. I hope they didn't mean literally high grade number (i.e low quality).

I can easily get better quality dragonwell tea from local store with half of the price. Very disappointed.

Bad longjing

If you are Chinese and drink a lot of good tea, stay away from this. It lacks typical Longjing roasted aroma, flavor, leaves size/shape quite inconsistent, loads of stems, I regretted buying 1 lb from this site. The Tianren 4 oz pack I got from local Chinese store is way better than this.. due to Covid I have not been able to go back to China so running low on green tea supply. I would not buy again here. The green tea sampler had nice packaging but the tea quality is also awful, maybe ok for someone who has not had the best authentic bud green tea from China... Given the price I guess consider a failed experiment... Will either buy from a Chinese site or bring from China directly in the future...
