Meet the Cloud Tea Mug, named for its soft, billowy shape. It swells gently at the top and tapers toward the base, so it settles right into your hands and invites you to wrap them around it and take a sip. At a generous 16 oz, this porcelain tea mug has plenty of room for a full cup and a full leaf sachet steeping inside.
The Cloud Mug has our trademark STEEPWARE® notch at the rim, so you can drape your Tea Spot full leaf sachets out the side while they steep. No more strings slipping into your cup or tags fished out with a spoon. It also comes with a matching saucer that doubles as a lid. Set it on top to keep the heat in while your tea brews, then flip it over and use it to rest your sachet when you're done.
Prefer loose leaf? Our Everyday Infuser fits the Cloud Mug perfectly (sold separately).

A Porcelain Tea Mug from Sri Lanka's Dankotuwa
Sri Lanka's pottery tradition dates back to 500 BC, built on the island's abundance of natural clay and minerals. Dankotuwa Porcelain carries that heritage forward from its factory in the town of Dankotuwa, about an hour north of Colombo. The company began commercial production in 1984 and today supplies porcelain to tables in more than 30 countries.
Dankotuwa is known around the world for the bright, clean whiteness of its porcelain. It was the first tableware maker in Sri Lanka to earn ISO 9001 quality certification, and its porcelain even set the tables at the 1996 Oscars banquet. Each piece starts with quartz, feldspar, and kaolin, the classic ingredients of fine porcelain.
Porcelain is fired at very high temperatures until the clay becomes dense and nonporous. That matters in a tea mug. A nonporous surface won't hold onto flavors from yesterday's cup, so your green tea tastes like green tea and your chai tastes like chai. It also feels smooth and substantial in the hand, the way a good mug should.
A Tea Mug with a Built-In Tea Bag Holder
Every piece of STEEPWARE® is designed around how you actually make tea, and the Cloud Mug is no exception. The notch at the rim keeps your sachet's string and tag hanging neatly outside the mug, right where you can grab them. Steep it, lift it out, and set it on the upturned saucer. Easy.
The saucer-lid does double duty while you brew. Covering your cup helps hold in heat and the aromatic oils that give tea its flavor, so you get a fuller, more fragrant cup, especially with herbal and mint teas.
A Large Tea Mug for Every Day
At 16 oz, the Cloud Mug is a large tea mug made for real life. It holds enough for a proper morning cup, an afternoon latte, or a slow evening herbal. It's microwave safe for reheating the cup you forgot about, and dishwasher safe for the days you just can't. However you tea, it's ready.
It also makes a thoughtful gift for any tea lover. Pair it with a few of our loose leaf teas so they have something to brew the day it arrives.
Care Instructions
- Dishwasher safe. Top rack is recommended to keep the glaze looking its best.
- Microwave safe.
- Avoid sudden temperature changes, like pouring boiling water into a mug straight from the freezer.
- Avoid abrasive scrubbers, which can dull the glaze over time.
FAQ
Does the Cloud Tea Mug come with an infuser? No. The STEEPWARE® notch is designed for our full leaf tea sachets. If you brew loose leaf, our Everyday Infuser fits the Cloud Mug perfectly and is sold separately.
What is the notch for? It's our signature STEEPWARE® notch. It holds your tea sachet against the rim while it steeps, so the string and tag stay outside your cup.
How big is the Cloud Mug? It holds 16 oz, enough for a full cup of tea with room for your sachet to steep.
Does it come with a lid? Yes. The matching saucer doubles as a lid. Set it on top to keep your tea hot while it steeps, then flip it over to rest your sachet.
Is the Cloud Mug microwave and dishwasher safe? Yes, it's both microwave safe and dishwasher safe.
Where is the Cloud Mug made? It's made in Sri Lanka by Dankotuwa Porcelain, which has crafted fine porcelain since 1984.
What's the difference between porcelain and ceramic? Porcelain is a type of ceramic. It's made from fine clay with kaolin and fired at higher temperatures than everyday stoneware, which makes it denser, smoother, and nonporous. That's why a porcelain tea mug won't hold onto flavors or odors from cup to cup.
