These Ceremonial Matcha Sticks are the perfect option for matcha lovers both at home and on the go. Whisk one in a matcha bowl, blend one into a matcha latte, or drop one in your water bottle on your way out the door!

Each stick holds 1.5 grams of pure ceremonial-grade matcha powder from Shizuoka and Kagoshima prefectures, blended from Yabukita and Saemidori cultivars. The color is exquisite, and the flavor is a deep umami with a smooth, clean finish. Each serving stays sealed in foil until the moment you open it, so every cup tastes like the first cup from a brand-new tin.

See our Ceremonial Matcha Tin for matcha in larger format, or our Essential Matcha Kit for the full set with bowl, whisk, and tools.

How to Brew Ceremonial Matcha Sticks: Two Ways

In a matcha bowl. Sift one stick into your chawan, add 2 oz of hot water at 175°F (80°C), and whisk briskly with a bamboo whisk (chasen) in a quick W or M motion until a fine layer of foam forms. Drink straight from the bowl, or pour into a cup. Skip boiling water, which makes matcha bitter.

In a water bottle. Empty one stick into a 12 to 16 oz bottle or shaker, fill with cold water (or your milk of choice), cap, and shake for about 10 seconds for a refreshing iced matcha.

Make a Matcha Latte at Home

Ceremonial matcha makes a beautifully smooth, delicious latte, prepared hot or iced. The cleaner flavor of ceremonial-grade matcha powder means you don't have to mask any bitterness with sweetener, the way you might with culinary grade matcha.

Hot matcha latte. Empty one stick into your mug. Add 2 oz of hot water and whisk or stir until smooth. Top with 8 to 10 oz of steamed or warmed milk (dairy or plant-based both work). Sweeten with honey, maple, or vanilla if you like.

Iced matcha latte. Empty one stick into a glass or shaker. Add 2 oz of cold water and stir or shake to dissolve. Fill with ice, pour in cold milk to taste, and enjoy.

You can also blend a stick into smoothies or stir one into yogurt for a quick green tea boost.

Why Matcha Sticks Stay Fresher Than a Tin

Matcha is highly sensitive to light, heat, and air. Once a tin is opened, the powder starts oxidizing, slowly losing the vibrant green color and bright umami top notes that make ceremonial matcha worth drinking. A tin you've been using for a few weeks is still good, but it isn't quite the same as the day you opened it.

Matcha sticks solve that. Each serving stays sealed to maintain peak freshness until you tear it open, so every cup tastes like the first cup from a brand-new tin. That's a real benefit for home brewers too: if you don't drink matcha every single day, a tin can fade before you finish it. The tenth stick you open in two months tastes the same as the first.

About the Ceremonial Matcha Powder

Matcha is a finely ground green tea, made from shade-grown leaves that develop a higher concentration of chlorophyll than regular green tea. The leaves are steamed, dried, and stone-milled into the bright green powder you whisk into hot water. Because you consume the whole leaf rather than steeping and discarding it, matcha is naturally rich in L-theanine, antioxidants, and naturally occurring caffeine. As the traditional tea of the Japanese tea ceremony, ceremonial-grade matcha has a mellow taste, smooth enough to drink straight with nothing more than water or milk.

The matcha powder in these sticks is shade-grown in Shizuoka and Kagoshima prefectures and stone-milled into a fine, vibrant green powder. The combination of Yabukita and Saemidori cultivars gives it a clean, balanced base with a brighter, sweeter top note. Unlike culinary-grade matcha, which is rougher and bolder for blending into baked goods, ceremonial matcha works beautifully on its own. Many people drink it in the morning, alongside or in place of coffee. It's the same matcha we sell in our Ceremonial Matcha Tin.
