First brew was a bit bitter. 2nd and 3rd brew were very smooth and flavorful (increased brew time about 2 more minutesfrom previous brew).

I'm going to try about 2 or 3 minutes, instead of 5, on the 1st brew next time. That should reduce the bitterness I tasted this time.

Pu Erh organic

I was not a tea drinker, until I found Tea Spot that is. I drink pu-erh mostly for the GI benefits and really I have no experience with other pu-erh tea but I find Tea Spot organic pu-erh to be enjoyable and full bodied. It has also been very helplful for some of the GI issues I have.

Love Teaspot

I have always loved organic Tea Spot teas. Unfortunately, this time I bought 1 pound of organic Black Puerh Tea and this time it was not as good as the last. It was not as flavorful as the last . It seemed more ordinary black tea. Can you explain why? I’ve also experienced this with Meditative Mind. Actually I only buy Tea Spot teas - because quality is important to me. Thank you .

Hi, Christine! Thank you for taking the time to review our Pu'erh, Organic. We take all feedback to heart and are very sorry that this product wasn't what you were expecting. Since tea is an agricultural product, every carefully hand-harvested and processed crop of the same tea can have subtle differences, depending upon the growing conditions (ie. rainfall, sun, growing season) perhaps resulting in a flavor profile that varies sometimes more than others. That being said, our Quality Control Department would be happy to look into this batch of tea to make sure it is meeting our quality standards. This robust, smooth tea starts my every day. It's my go-to. Love it!!

A Gentler Pu-Erh

Pu-erh tea is one of those entities that people tend to love or hate. There doesn’t seem to be much middle ground, even when someone WANTS to love it. I happen to be a guy who loves Pu-erh. However, let me qualify that by saying I love GOOD Pu-erh. I have tried one or two Pu-erh selections that left me less than enamored.

When I opened the one-pound pouch that I purchased from The Tea Spot, I was instantly greeted with the familiar rich and leathery aroma of Pu-erh. I steeped the medium-length black and tea leaves at 212 degrees for five minutes, as recommended by the folks at The Tea Spot. The brewed result was the color of black coffee. The smell was leathery but not as strong as I’ve experienced in the past with other selections of that variety.

Another surprise (somewhat) was the flavor contained a gentle fortitude. It was quite pleasant and smooth, without slapping my tastebuds. A leathery and earthly zest was front and center, but it was in no way over-powering. I did not detect astringency anywhere. Even the aftertaste did not overcome the bowl of cereal that the tea washed down.

To summarize, the flavor is rich but not oppressive. This is a very tranquil Pu-erh tea that probably won’t trigger the most committed Pu-erh skeptic’s gag reflex.
